Conservative dentistry is a branch of dental medicine, which deals with the removal and treatment of dental caries, and the development of aesthetic fillings and other aesthetic elements such as inlay, onlay and overlay substitutes.
Fillings are composite materials used to close the damage to the tooth enamel which was caused by caries or tooth decay. In modern dentistry fillings are made of luminous polymerized materials (composites) which are of higher quality, last longer, are less damaging than the outdated amalgam fillings, and are characterized by a much greater aesthetic value.
Inlay and onlay implants are very similar to fillings. The main difference is that they are made in a dental laboratory based on a stuffed tooth print. They are made of composite materials and complete ceramics.
Endodontia is the branch of dental medicine which deals with the treatment of various root canal inflammations. Regular check-ups, caries removal as well as removing low quality and deteriorated fillings, are the best solution in the prevention of toothache. If you do not remove caries, bacteria from the mouth can enter the root canal and cause an inflammation of the pulp (tooth nerve) which will eventually cause a severe toothache.
Due to deep caries or tooth trauma, there can occur pulpitis or tooth nerve inflammation, which manifests itself as a severe pain. Multiplication of bacteria can cause an inflammation which then causes the decay of soft tissues in the root canal. A weaker inflammation can lead to periapical changes ( granuloma), while a stronger inflammation can lead to the destruction of bone followed by severe pain, and finally, tooth loss.
If the dentist determines that the pulp is in the process of dying, there are two therapeutic options: endodontic dental treatment or its removal. Certainly it is better to first try and treat the tooth endodontically and keep it in the jaw, than remove it, considering no dental replacement is as good as your own tooth. This is a process which requires a lot of patience, which is an integral and important part in the endodonic treatment of teeth.
The treatment involves removing the tooth nerve and a thorough cleaning of the entire root canal. After the disinfection, the canals are filled with permanent fillings to prevent any further penetration of bacteria inside the roots. In this treatment we use special materials and electronic positioning to determine the position of the top of the canal; special detectors which determine the point of entrance in the canal, radiological specification of their number and position, and mechanical cleaning and processing of the canal wall. Cutting-edge equipment and the use of high-quality procedures which are adapted to each tooth, have made it possible to achieve maximum efficiency in the treatment of teeth.
Endodontic treatment is sometimes carried out when the teeth do not show symptoms that would require treatment. In that case we are considering prosthetic substitutes which could possibly lead to irritation or pulp damaging. To avoid the eventual removal of the new tooth replacement, due to a possible disease of the pulp, a preventive endodontic treatment is carried out.
Removing the ill tooth is the last option, applied only when all the possible therapeutic options had been carried out, but did not manage to milden the symptoms.
